Thanksgiving is just around the corner. By now, you’ve probably already seen numerous Facebook posts about being thankful… friends and family participating in the ever popular daily “what I’m thankful for” posts. And it’s absolutely wonderful to be a part of that. In a perfect world, we would be expressing our thankfulness every day, because if you’re alive and breathing, you have something to be thankful for, but the reality is that often times we get caught up in the hum of daily life. For that reason, it’s good that we take time to focus in on being thankful during this season.
But, let’s pose a slightly different question… why are you thankful? You see, we all have something to be thankful for. Life is probably not perfect for you, and for some it may be down right difficult right now, but if you really consider how things could be, we all have reason to be thankful… but why is that?
James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
I’m fortunate enough to be able to say I’m thankful for many things, but the reason I’m thankful… they why… is because of my heavenly Father. He has always taken care of me, even in the difficult times. The crazy part is that I absolutely do NOT deserve any blessings from Him. While I try to live a holy life, I fail daily, and the Bible teaches that those failures, even the “small” ones, should earn me a death sentence. Luckily Jesus stepped in and paid the price for me. I hope you have a lot to be thankful for, and I hope you take the time to express that thankfulness. But, most of all, I hope that the reason you are thankful is that you have personal relationship with God of the universe because of your salvation through Jesus. If you don’t have that or don’t know what that means, send us a message in our contact page and we’ll get in touch with you as soon as we can or come visit us on Sunday mornings when we gather together to worship our creator. He is why I’m thankful. How about you?
